Should AI touch this workflow?

Your firm has probably decided, in principle, to use AI. Have you worked out what it would actually take to put it into one specific workflow, and who would notice if it got a case wrong?

A private ninety-minute workshop on one workflow in your firm. You leave able to say, in your own words, whether AI belongs in it at all. A one-page brief follows within two working days, written for your board or your compliance team. Sometimes it recommends leaving the workflow alone.

What this is

A single ninety-minute workshop in two parts for your firm, at your office or online. A one-page brief follows within two working days.

First part

We look through the AI hype by separating big promises from real facts. After half an hour, you can answer a few questions in your own words:

  • What does AI actually do with the information you give it?
  • Where does that information go, and who else can see it?
  • Who decides what it is allowed to do, and can you stop it?
  • When it gets something wrong, how would anyone in your firm notice?
  • If a regulator, or your board, asked why a decision was made, what could you say?

Second part

We discuss one of your firm's workflows that you have in mind. Together, we walk through it as it really happens and ask:

  • Where would AI save time, and where would it just move the work?
  • If it got a case wrong, who would catch it, and what would it cost?
  • Could you explain afterwards what AI did, and why you trusted it?
  • Would it only suggest, or would it act on its own?
  • What would it need from you first: documents, time, written rules?
  • Who looks after it once it is running?

Afterwards

Within two working days you get one page. It says, plainly, whether this workflow is worth putting AI near, what you would need to sort out first, and the smallest sensible next step. Something you can put in front of your board, your compliance team, or your own doubts.

What would you need to know to decide whether AI belongs in the workflow?

Would you want to know where AI could genuinely remove work, what would have to be true for it to work, and who would notice when it does not?

That is what the workshop examines for one workflow. The brief records the preliminary answer, what remains unresolved, and the smallest sensible next step. Sometimes that next step is to leave the workflow alone. Sometimes it is to change one narrow part and keep the rest with people.

The workshop can identify the controls, review points, and evidence the workflow would need. Your compliance function and advisers still determine whether a final design meets your obligations.

  3. Use the brief to decide

Within two working days, you receive a one-page AI Opportunity Brief. It records the preliminary assessment, what remains unresolved, and the smallest sensible next step.

On whether AI belongs in the workflow, the answer may be yes, no, or not yet.

What would you want the person examining your workflow to understand?

AI, certainly. But also what the work looks like on an ordinary day: the handoffs, the exceptions, the judgement calls, and the things people do because the written process does not cover the case in front of them.

I have spent more than fifteen years building technology. For the past nine, I have been co-founder of Xeco Labs, where we build operational infrastructure for financial firms. I also have a master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Amsterdam.

That combination is why I look at both sides: what the model can do, and what your firm would have to live with after it is introduced.

Some of the firms I have worked with through Xeco Labs

Index People, AssetCare, Carbon Equity, Bits of Stock, OAKK Capital Partners, RegLab.

If that sounds like the perspective you would want in the room, start with the free call.
